In Western Australia a periodic tenancy rent may not be increased within the first six months of the tenancy. After that, increases can occur every six months and landlords must give at least 60 days notice in writing using one of the forms below.
Steps to complete
- Download either the 'Notice to tenant of rent increase (except for rent calculated by tenant’s income)' form or the 'Notice to tenant of rent increase calculated by tenant’s income' form
- Read through the form thoroughly
- Complete all sections of the form
- Give the completed form directly to the tenant or send by post
Tips
- Rent in a fixed-term tenancy can only be increased if the written agreement specifies how much the rent increase will be or the method of calculating the rent increase is shown (eg by CPI). If the rent is able to be increased, it can take effect no sooner than six months after the commencement of the tenancy agreement and the date of the last increase. The lessor must give at least 60 days’ notice of the increase.
